Currently confined to wheelchair and hospitalized.
This coming week will be discharged from hospital, and healthcare professionals have advised that are unable to assist with recommendation/research to locate suitable rental accomodation.
Require temporary for approx. 3 month duration rental accomdation.
One level accomodation with level ground vehicle parking; do NOT require the suite to provide ” handicap” ” accessible” wheelchair features.
Anmore through to West Maple Ridge is location required.
Suggestions/recommendations for the following:
bed and breakfast,
corporate/executive/professional oriented
hotel
adult oriented basement suite, condo, apartment
one or two bedroom furnished or unfurnished suite rental
for short term duration would be appreciated.
OR recommendation of an appropriate agency that would have resources available to assist in this urgent situation.

Looking for wheelchair accessible housing in Penticton? Am registered with BC housing but nothing. Need a place ASAP
Thank You
Hi Jake,
Unfortunately, I am not aware of any vacancies at this time and it must be difficult to find accessible housing in Penticton. I looked at our listings and we have not had and accessible listing in our Housing List of Vacancies or on our accessible housing website for some time. Have you contacted the four BC Housing subsidized housing in Penticton? They are Abbot Towers, Kiwanis, Reed’s Corner and The Tower. If you would like, I can add you to our email list and you will be notified if we receive any notifications of available rental units.
Regards,
Bert
Hi Bert
Thanks for the response. Yes I’m registered BC housing and do believe they are on the list of housing in Penticton.
Thank You
Jake
Hi guys,
I was having trouble finding an accessible three bedroom co-op, apartment, etc. I have a lower injury and I fit in standard units too but it would be much easier if it was accessible even a little like the bathroom at my parents is so tight that I have to transfer onto the toilet then slide down a bridge. If anyone knows where else if should look please let me know.
Thanks so much, Kodee
Hi Kodee. I’ll email you some other resources to look at.

I am a married women who is in a power chair who is looking for a modified unit that is in Kelowna, B.C. I am registered with B.C. Housing & the Hope Society but, their modifed units are not for couples. 1 unit was only 645 square feet and the other one is 748 square feet. They only had one bedroom units and none had balconies. In both units the bedrooms
were to small (a person would only be able to fit a single bed in there) and when you are a married couple that is not practical. The reason I am looking and trying so persistantly is because, my health is really dictating that I start the search now in hopes that I can find something that is centrally located that is like a one bedroom and den modified unit that would allow me to move my powerchair around freely in the unit and have enough room to fit medical equipment that I need to have in the bedroom. Everywhere I look I get the same answer we only have 1 bedroom units and they are smaller then what we have now.
The unit my husband and I are in now is not wheelchair accessible so that is why I am trying desparately to find a unit that is and modified. Would also need the unit to be for low income and income directed.
I was also hoping that , if you have a scale that I would use for measurements for a unit that is modified 1 bedroom and what a 2 bedroom size should be?
Sincerely,
Janet

Hi, I am looking for a wheelchair accessible housing anywhere in the lower mainland or Vancouver Island for someone. Currently living in Vancouver in a BC housing apartment that is clearly not wheelchair friendly and it is really affecting their physical & mental health and nothing is being done by BC housing in regards to a transfer.
Hello, this is a complaint we hear often. There is a shortage of accessible housing across the province. Hopefully something will come up.
